Alpine Web Media, LLC began way back in the mid-1990s in Newport, Vermont. Initially called “Internet Creations”, we produced websites for area businesses. Back in those days, the web, as we now know it, was in its infancy. Believe it or not, it was a BIG taboo to sell anything online, so we did so via various bulletin board services (does Compuserve and AOL ring a distant bell?).
Yahoo was the king of at least a half dozen search engines, all of which have long since faded into obscurity, in the age of Google. It was relatively easy to get a website listed on the first page of Yahoo search results back then, within days or even hours! Most people didn’t even have Internet access and many thought the web would just be a fad like VHS and Beta video.
We were one of the very first web agencies in Vermont and also one of the very first to sell real estate via the web. As a matter of fact, the home I used to own in Newport, VT was sold via a video that was sent to someone stationed overseas, via a system we created for a local real estate agent.
We worked with that real estate agent for 20 years, taking her one small office and increasing her sales and exposure to result in several additional office locations. Her website consistently ranked #1 in Yahoo, and later Google, as kept up with web technology and applied it at every opportunity.
Since those starting years long ago, we have created and worked on over 700 websites for businesses small and large. We helped IBM in Essex Junction, VT to create their very first intranet which became a model throughout IBM worldwide.
We’ve done “behind the scenes” web design and triage work for many other webs and graphic design agencies throughout Vermont. As you might expect, we have enough “stories” to write a book - and someday, that may just happen
