Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd, founded in 1986, is dedicated to importing and distributing premium specialty foods such as fresh and dried mushrooms, truffles, and other gourmet products. Initially focused on fresh shiitake mushrooms, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd expanded in 1995 to include imports from China and local sources. By 1998, they were the first Canadian company to import fresh mushrooms from China via ocean shipment, and soon grew their distribution network to include Canada and the Northwestern U.S. In 2001, the company opened an office in China to cultivate new suppliers and products, which led to the addition of imported fruits and vegetables. Their Vancouver facility produces certified organic fresh shiitake mushrooms.
